Nominations
Nominations to the Ellsberg Whistleblower Award are open to all. If you would like to tell us about a whistleblower that might be deserving of the award, let us know via our ONLINE NOMINATIONS PORTAL. You may also nominate yourself.
Necessary criteria for awardees:
- The confidential information disclosed originated within the whistleblower’s work environment.
- The disclosed information significantly contributes to contemporary public debates on:
- Strengthening democracy and human rights, and / or
- The public’s right to know
- The illegitimacy of the secrecy must be plausible.
- The course of the whistleblowing must be verifiable by the jury (e.g. through independent journalistic articles).
- The whistleblowing was primarily out of altruistic motives.
- Receiving an award must be in the interest of the whistleblower.
An International Group Effort
Awarding the Ellsberg Whistleblower Award is a collective effort. Next to our executive board and our associated organizations the general public can nominate potential awardees. The executive board and the member organizations form the official jury. That jury will then decide on that year’s winner by majority vote.
