An International Group Effort
Awarding the Ellsberg Whistleblower Award is a collective effort. Next to our executive board, our member organizations and the general public can nominate potential awardees. The executive board and the member organizations appoint members for the official jury. That jury will then decide on that year’s winner by majority vote.
This way, we not only want to protect and strengthen whistleblowers from all around the world, but also raise international awareness for the grievances that they have brought to light.

How it all began
For our inaugural award cycle in 2024, Daniel Ellsberg chose himself who should win the very first Ellsberg Whistleblower Award. So we got to focus on getting things started.
